About Morristown

What do some of America's greatest creative minds--including Joyce Kilmer, Fran Lebowitz, Thomas Nast, Gene Shalit and Dorothy Parker--all have in common?  They were all Morristown residents at one time.

Located less than an hour from Manhattan by train or car, Morristown is the county seat of Morris County.  Long known as a suburban haven with cosmopolitan flair, the National Trust for Historic Preservation named Morristown to its list of America's Dozen Distinctive Destinations in 2002, an honor that highlights the best preserved and most unique communities in the United States.

Established by English immigrants in the early 1700s, Morristown was incorporated as a town by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 6, 1865 within Morris Township, and was formally set off from the township in 1895.
